OPEN WATER SNORKELLER

WSC Open Water Snorkeller Course​

There are classroom sessions to teach the theoretical knowledge of snorkelling, coupled with practical lessons in the pool or in sheltered water. The practical training is identical to the content of Dolphin Snorkeller. The training is structured and progressive, building skills and confidence.

Practical Pool Sessions

  • This course enables students to snorkel competently and confidently in open water environments.​ It is a club organised course and is run by the club as an intermediate stage between BSAC Snorkel Diver and BSAC Advanced Snorkel Diver qualifications
  • It is a requirement for any member of WSC to have successfully completed this course before they are taken into open water by the club.

Practical Pool Sessions

  • Use of a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB)
  • Use of weight belts
  • Compass navigation
  • Basic lifesaving including CPR and RB
  • Use of Lifejackets
  • Tired swimmer tow
  • Snorkelling rescue, Breathing but unconscious subject 
  • Snorkelling rescue, Non-breathing subject
  • Risks and precautions

Theory Lessons

  • Aim of the course and developing Snorkel skills
  • Additional Equipment
  • Locating sites
  • Using a compass/Underwater pilotage
  • Underwater photography
Open water sessions will be arranged on designated dates, under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
